Intro to 3D Games Programming with Torque 3D

This course is a three class introduction to 3D game development. We will decompose, understand, and develop a basic first person shooter game. The only requirement is that you are able to download and execute the First Person Shooter Tutorial available for free at http://www.garagegames.com/fps. You must bring your own machine in order to participate in the labs.

The class will provide lectures and labs on the following:
  • Our 3D World Editor
  • Scripting and Logic
  • Characters
  • Weapons
  • Networking Basic
  • Multi-Player Components
  • Deployment
By the end of this course, the student will gain the understanding of basic game development. They will be able to build 3D worlds, add characters and weapons, understand basic game networking, and integrate components needed to build a win/lose condition and complete a basic game.

Dates & Time: Jan 19th, Jan 24th, Jan 26th from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at /usr/lib
 
Prerequisites: Please download Torque 3D and complete the first lesson at home prior to showing up for the first day of the workshop on January 19th. The lesson and download links are at http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque-3d/fps#/1-setup/1 - this will cover installation of the software and ensure that on the first day you are ready jump into the good stuff! You'll need a laptop to participate in the workshop.
